THE JENSEN BEACH FISHING REPORT

Jensen Beach is located at the St. Lucie Inlet, just minutes from the Gulf Stream. Labeled the Sailfish Capitol of the World, one three-day tournament released over 200 spindle beaks. The title fails to recognize the miles of shore line and flats that surround Jensen Beach.

Sailfish

Blue Water anglers will find action daily within sight of the shore line; sailfish, kings, wahoo and dolphin are plentiful throughout the year. Your ability and equipment can be tested with dolphin to 50 lb., king fish in the 20 lb. class, and cobia that will smoke the drags on your reel. Reefs, both natural and artificial, play host to every type of snapper. 12 lb. muttons are not unusual, with grouper that will wear your patience and leaders thin.

Surf anglers will find miles of beach with just as many access points to cast their luck. From tasty whiting and croaker in the first trough to pompano and blue fish for the long cast- the catch list is long. Snook and tarpon patrol the summer beaches following bait schools, so be sure your reels are filled to capacity.

Pompano

River anglers will find miles of mangroves, green grassbeds and channels with spoil islands to attract every species one could challenge.

Waders and small boaters from canoes to center consoles will appreciate the many up- to-date boat ramps and their locations. The Jensen waterways continue to record the state's largest numbers of 20 lb class snook year after year. Trout records are set yearly. Fly rod anglers: an 8 # weight is minimum to land a nine pound trout. The state's largest tarpon, 250 lb., was caught and released just 4 miles from one of the many well-maintained boat ramps.

Jensen Beach has 2 causeways with bridges,a catwalk and a fishing pier that offer plenty of lazy areas to wet a line and watch the sun set. From the heavy trolling tackle to the lightest river tackle, the Jensen area offers fishing action for all skill levels from the miles and miles of shoreline.
